Siu Nim Tao Grading Wing Chun Kung FU

Siu Nim Tao Grading

The UKWCKFA has only two compulsory gradings. These were instigated to separate beginners, intermediates and advanced level classes. After that all gradings are voluntary and you will complete the rest of the formal ‘Art’ in time regardless of whether or not you wish to test yourself. The UKWCKFA has only two compulsory gradings to move through classes. The Siu Nim Tao grading allows students to move to the advanced classes.

Big ‘Congratulations’ to all of the students who took part in the 2nd Level grading known as the Siu Nim Tao grading. There was a great class camaraderie. The students who came to watch were inspired to push forward and enjoyed it immensely.

Rayleigh

Well done to Steve Hunt who proved that age is not the great barrier that many fear. At 60 yrs of age and with only a couple of years in training he succeeded in passing the test, and with a smile. He also was responsible for pulling his classmates together by using the National HQ, when it was free, to meet up for extra practice. http://www.rayleighwingchun.co.uk

Maidstone

Another ‘Well done’ to Darren Sumpton of the Maidstone Wing Chun School as he succeeded in gaining a ‘Distinction Pass’ of 82.5% well earned and a testament to his teacher Mark Blackbourne.

Sidcup

John Cossentine Sifu who runs the Sidcup Wing Chun school managed to successfully get his two candidates through this demanding grading. Well done to Owen Bradnock and Patrick Cotton. Go to http://www.kentwingchun.net for more info

Finally the students from the Bedford Wing Chun School travelled all the way to Essex and faced the challenge with a good pass being earn. Well done to Antonio and Enzo. http://www.bedfordwingchun.co.uk

Special thanks go out Advanced Level students Kyriakos Charalambous and Chris Kelly who went in and trained with the guys last night to push them and help them reach their potential.

The guys all deserve a mention:

I thought I would impose my thoughts and write a personal note. Over the years of teaching I have seen many students come and go. Many have left a lasting impression, and most have made the journey as a teacher that bit brighter. I have seen some students struggle with the Art and others, sadly, struggle with life and some tragically lose that struggle. Please read with kindness tenderness and compassion. It is not an ‘I know better’ it is a reflection, a prayer if you like….Another year! Wow we made it! We passed ¼ of a century. Time humbles everything in the universe. Look back at the moments that have shaped you. Appreciate the growth and lessons learnt, despite pain that inevitably pops its head up for attention…Try to let go and move on from the sadness of loss, hurt, worry, and feelings of being stuck in a loop you struggle to get out of. If you feel stuck, allow others pull you out! We all need support from time to time, it is not weak to ask for help. Today we have an ‘arbitrary’ new year that we can use to draw a line in the sand. We can use the opportunity to embrace change, challenges, and the people who remain in our lives. I know some of you have had an horrendous 2024, and have faced awful challenges. I hope you continue to find the strength to fight on and humble us with your amazing spirit. Be present for others, even when you yourself feel worthless. Sometimes we can’t see how much we are valued, needed and loved. You are as important and as special as any person on this planet, because you are the only you, quirks and all…. Let’s use the idea of Wing Chun’s Siu Nim Tao to make simple small steps to grow, not just in the Art but also how we share time with others and how we look within ourselves. Look after yourself. It is not selfish. You will be better able to look after those who need you if you remain well. I wish all of you a better 2025 and look forward to the challenge of helping you grow in the Art. It may not be obvious… I do enjoy sharing the Art, that small part of your life called Wing Chun Kuen. Thank you for letting me do this WITH YOU, and for making my personal journey more enjoyable. Here is a more recent video from our live Zoom discussion on basic strikes. As you may have noticed we have stopped presenting as many videos. So… two in a day is out of the ordinary, (or bang 'out of order mate' as our Essex based naysayers may bray) but it is really just a Holiday Special.....! It remains a thankless and time hungry activity to produce these snippets from our live Saturday morning Zoom sessions. The viewing numbers, and likes of our Facebook videos, are hugely in opposite directions. Are you really not enjoying them? Are you not entertained….! If you do enjoy this type of passive Wing Chun material, please take the time to move your cursor/finger a short distance and 'hit the like button'. You are also welcome to comment or request topics you would like to see. No promises, although we will consider it.As this is just a short extract from a far longer discussion, it is open to misinterpretation. You may well take the topic and comments out of context. For this reason we will not engage in any discussion. It is probable that it was discussed in the full video. We could go back and forth ad infinitum. We accept that James' presentational teaching style will not suit everyone. However. it is hoped that you will glean something of interest, and don't deign to consider it a complete waste of time. Here's to the love and humiity found in Martial Arts!!!Happy Holidays one and all. May this be a time when we accept we all wish to be happy in the presece of those we love, and try to be gracious and kind to all.
